This was a tailor made project for Ashbrook First School in Milton Keynes.
My brief was to work with the children of this First School to create a piece of outdoor art that would enhance a plain wall within the grounds and could provide stimulus for further teaching.
Year 1 children explored the grounds with digital cameras taking close up shots of familiar views such as a drain, pergola, willow tunnel and pavings.
Year 2 children chose 11 of these digital photographs and drew enlarged and simplified versions onto primed boards of exterior grade MDF. These designs – by now quite abstract – were then filled in with a range of weather-proof materials: acrylic paint, stones, wood and tiles
